Jeune Tressler Pipes

Jeune Tressler Brayton Pipes, age 78, passed away on April 5, 2023.

Born on December 10, 1944, in Monroe, Louisiana, Jeune attended Louisiana Tech University and the University of New Orleans, receiving her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees and worked for the state of Louisiana teaching English to special needs students. She lived most of her life in New Orleans. She was a member of Rayne Memorial United Methodist Church there where she taught Sunday School for many years.

Jeune moved to New Orleans in 1972 into the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood near Elysian Fields and St Charles Street. Jeune and her close friend, Bobby Moffett, played an important role in revitalizing this downtrodden area and establishing it as a Historic Area of New Orleans.

She loved reading, especially historical novels and detective mysteries, sharing her finished books with friends and family and caring for her pet boxers, Sugar, Ginger & Tucker. Jeune also loved discussing the writing and plot of novels after her many years teaching English and working with words.

Jeune is survived by her brothers Donald Barry Pipes and wife, Brenda, and William Windsor Pipes; nephews, Donald H. Pipes, wife Nyla and their children Vivianna Pipes and Gage Steffen; James W. Pipes, wife Naomi and their children Bailey, Brooke, Blake and Blaire Pipes; and William B. Dunne and Dylan W. Dunne; close friends, Freda Y. Dunne, Bobby Moffett and Xavier Valenti.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Donald Green Pipes and Edith Jeune Hunt Pipes.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023, beginning at 10 a.m. until memorial services at 11 a.m. at the Rayne Memorial United Methodist Church, 3900 St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans, Louisiana.
