John David Colona

Jul 23, 1954 — May 26, 2026

Prairieville, Louisiana

And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

John David Colona, age 71, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center. He battled various health conditions for several years and when he could no longer continue to fight, Jesus said, “Come unto me and I will give you rest”.

He was a native of Hammond, Louisiana and resident of Prairieville. He retired from BASF Chemical Manufacturing where he was an Operator for over twenty years. Prior to his years at BASF, he was a brick mason and later got into the food service industry as a manager with Piccadilly Cafeterias.

David enjoyed fishing, watching LSU football and baseball, working with tools and fixing things, gardening, and cooking (he and his wife were both very good cooks). He also enjoyed attending church services at Graceworks Church and watching the services online. Above all else, being a grandfather to his granddaughter, Calla, who lived with him, was the greatest joy of his life.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Mary Goff Colona, his son, John Ryan Colona, and his partner, Cheramie Love Tacker, his son, Preston Benjamin Colona, and his parents, John and Genevieve Colona.

He is survived by his granddaughter, Calla Rosemary Colona, his sister, Debbie Colona, his sister, Patty Colona Cook and her husband Trey, his niece, Katy Cook Spinosa and her husband Trenton and their son, Luca, his niece, Jenny Cook, his aunt, Emogene Shuttleworth, many first cousins, and numerous Colona, Dillon, and Goff family members.

Visitation will be at Resthaven Funeral Home at 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge on Friday, June 12, 2026, from 1:30-3:30 PM with the service following at 3:30 PM.
