John Joseph Musser, affectionately known as “John John,” passed away peacefully on Friday, May 22, 2026, in Denham Springs, Louisiana, at the age of 93.
John was born on December 16, 1932, In Lancaster, Pennsylvania, to Edgar and Elizabeth (Resh) Musser. John was a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College and retired geologist with the USGS. He was the LA State Senior Chess Champion and found great joy in volunteering his time to teach the game to young players. John will be remembered for his intelligence, kindness, steady presence, and deep love for his family and friends. His life touched many, and his memory will continue to leave a lasting mark on all who knew him.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Nancy “Nanny” (Courson) Musser; son, Ronald Joseph Musser (Mary); parents; and siblings, Gertrude Prepparato, Charles Musser, and James Musser.
He is survived by his sister, Betty Heugel; son, Eugene David Musser (Rhonda); and cherished grandchildren, Summer Babin (Charles), Danielle Wallace (Adam), and Matthew Musser (Precious). He also leaves behind his beloved great-grandchildren, Dillon Babin, Victoria Babin, Savannah Babin, Jakob Babin, Elisabeth Babin, Lucas Wallace, Sofia Wallace, Levi Russell, Lincoln Musser, and Lennox Musser; as well as his great-great-granddaughters, Hazel Keith-Babin and Olivia Babin.
A private graveside service will be held with his family.
