A native and resident of Baton Rouge passed away Saturday, June 29, 2013 at the age of 88. A proud father, grandfather, greatgrandfather, brother, uncle and friend was born on October 4, 1924 and was a graduate of Baton Rouge High School and Baton Rouge Business College. He served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946 in the South Pacific. Johnny was a distributor and paperboy for the Morning Advocate, State Times, and later for The Advocate for over 65 years where he retired in 2004 at the age of 79. He was an avid collector. He is survived by three sons, J. Byron Lato and wife Rachel, Rory Lato and wife Mary, Thomas Lato and wife Julie and daughterinlaw Kaye Lato 14 grandchildren, Stephen Mark Lato and wife Sabrina, Sam Lato and wife Michelle, Kaci Roy and husband Genin, Shaun Lato and wife Cherie, Heather Landry and husband Trey, Rory Lato, Jr. and wife Nicole, Scott Lato and wife Erin, Brett Lato, Kayla Kucharchuk and husband Richard, Lindsey Hargroder and husband Kyle, B.J. Lato, and Madeline, Sadie, and Dominic Lato and 10 greatgrandchildren, Stephen Michael and Rosalie Lato, Lillian and Ian Landry, Ellie and Cecilia Lato, Blaise and Austin Lato, Hannah Lato and Carter Lato. Also survived by brother Louis Lato and wife Margaret and sister Joan Lato Barbay. Preceded in death by beloved son Stephen Lato, parents Angelo Guy and Antonina Lena Lato, sisters Mary Lato Gomez and Virginia Lato Trahan, brothers Sam, Joe, and Guy Lato. Visitation Monday, July 1, 2013 from 5 pm until 8 pm at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, LA 70816. Visitation will resume at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 759 East Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70802 from 10 am until his Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Pallbearers will be his eight grandsons and Honorary Pallbearers will be Louis Lato and Sonny Gomez.
