Jose Napoleon Melendez, Sr.

Jose Napoleon Melendez, Sr. was born April 30, 1952, in Usulután, El Salvador. He passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026, in Prairieville Louisiana where he resided at the age of 73.

In his younger years, Jose loved traveling home to El Salvador; embracing the journey there just as much as the destination. Throughout his life, he found peace in the outdoors. He took joy in woodworking and building projects of all kinds. His craftsmanship and dedication were reflected in every piece he created, each holding a special meaning to him. Above all, he was a loving husband, son, father, and grandfather who deeply cherished time spent with his family. His warmth, strength, and steady presence brought comfort to those around him. Though his absence will be profoundly felt, the love he so freely gave will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him

Jose was preceded in death by his sisters, Reina Melendez, Carmen Melendez, and Marina Melendez; and brothers, Francisco Melendez, Jose Leonidas Melendez, Luis Melendez, and Hernan Melendez.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Veronica Melendez; daughter, Zoila Melendez; and sons, Jose Napoleon Melendez, Jr. (Kimberly Cant-Melendez), Edwin Melendez (Digna Melendez), Julio Melendez, and Enrique Napoleon Melendez. He is also survived by his brother, Atilio Melendez (Maria de la Cruz Melendez) and adored grandchildren, Tristian Hughes, Elena Melendez, Daniel Melendez, Emily Melendez, Julian Melendez, Isabella Melendez, and Anabella Melendez.

Jose’s life was a testament to love, hard work, and devotion to family.

Visitation will take place at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy. Baton Rouge, LA 70816, on Saturday, February 14, 2026, beginning at 9:00 AM until services at 11:00 AM. Burial to follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
