LTC Joseph “Jody” T. Babin, III (USAR retired)

July 18, 1953 — June 26, 2025

Known for his infectious laugh and servant’s heart, LTC Joseph “Jody” T. Babin, III (USAR Retired) passed away peacefully at home on June 26, 2025. He was born in Biloxi, MS on July 18, 1953, and lived in Baton Rouge for most of his 71 years. He was a graduate of LSU, where he was an ROTC cadet. Years later, Jody received a military master’s degree. He served his country proudly in the US Army, both on active duty and in the Army Reserves. Jody was awarded numerous medals for his service, among them the prestigious Legion of Merit. He retired from the military as a Lt. Colonel after serving for 28 years. Jody worked in the insurance business for over 35 years.

He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid LSU sports fan. In his spare time, Jody enjoyed traveling, taking trips to the beach, to Omaha for the 2009 CWS, and to the Grand Canyon. Jody was an active member of Jefferson Baptist Church where he served in various capacities, as a deacon, in the choir, on the security team, different committees, and mission trips, as well as helped with Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child. Most importantly, Jody was a follower of Jesus Christ.

Jody had a great sense of humor and a smile that could light up a room! He will be greatly missed by his adoring family who loved him dearly and affectionally called him “JodyBear.”

Jody is survived by his loving wife of over 48 years, Barbara “Babs” Babin; daughter, Emily Cheryl Babin; son, Brett Joseph Babin (Krysten); sisters, Claire Babin and Sharon Winter (Lewis), and brother, Jaime Babin; mother, Barbara “Tootsie” Babin; granddaughters, Adelyn and Ellis Babin; and grandson, Josiah Babin.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph T. Babin, Jr. and brother, William “Billy” Babin.
