Joseph Salvador Guercio, Jr. age 90, died on September 15, 2022. He passed away peacefully at the home he built with his devoted wife of 68 years, Daisy Smith Guercio, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 26, 1931, in White Castle, Louisiana. He was a resident of Baton Rouge, where he enjoyed his four decades plus career with Gulf States Utilities. Mr. Joe, as known to all, was a proud veteran of the U. S. Army and a devout parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. He was devoted to his family, faith, and many friends. He was a selfless helper, a genuine advisor, and a keen listener. He was an avid supporter of all athletics but the biggest fan of the many endeavors of his children and grandchildren.
Joseph is survived by his wife Daisy and their five children: Darlene and Rusty Brown; JoLynn and Jimmy Saizan, Jan and Mike Rousseau; Gina and Dan McCaughey; Jody and Stephanie Guercio, his sister, Mary Ann Burton, and numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Malena Guercio, sister Lena Mae (Tony) Lombardo, sister Patricia (Lee) Moreau and brothers Sammy and Russell Guercio, brother in law Buddy Burton, infant son, Craig Joseph, and granddaughter, Ashli Luquette.
Visitation will take place at Resthaven Funeral Home on Sunday, September 18, 2022, from 5 to 8 pm, and Rosary at 7:30 pm. Services will continue Monday, September 19, 2022, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church: visitation at 9 am with Mass to follow at 10 am. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Russ Brown, Jimmy Saizan, Joseph Guercio, Laiton McCaughey, Logan McCaughey, Lane McCaughey, and Ladd McCaughey.
With their sincerest gratitude, his family would like to thank Baton Rouge Hospice, Pam Henry, Linda Kelley, Kimara Dennis, Ursula Pinkney, and Bridgette Johnson for their unwavering and loving care.
