Josephine Gulino

August 13, 1929 — September 23, 2021

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7

Josie (Josephine) Mae Cicero Gulino (92) completed her good fight in faith to the end being received into the arms of the Lord and to be reunited with her beloved husband, Ciro. She passed at Oschner Medical Center at 1:19 pm on September 23, 2021 on the feast of St. Padre Pio.

She was born to Joseph and Josephine Sciambra Cicero on August 13, 1929 in Monroe, Louisiana. She met the love of her life Ciro Christopher Gulino in Amite, LA, married 50 years, and moved with him to start their life together in Baton Rouge, with final residence in Greenwell Springs, LA. She was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, and cousin to a tremendously large and loving Sicilian family, and was beloved friend of so many.

After rearing her four children, she pursued florist training, devoting many long hours and years making beautiful creations at a number of florists until she was well into her 80's. In keeping with family tradition that was passed on to her from generations of her family from Sicily, she offered her love and labor to many years of St. Joseph Altars.

She is survived and sorely missed by her children and spouses, Kathlene Dianne Gulino and Leonard Pizzalato, Ronald Chris and Kathy Sylvest Gulino, Charles Keith and Marianne Gulino, and Glen Joseph and Staci Gulino; her grandchildren and spouses, Eric and Jenny Pizzalato, Darin and Lisa Pizzalato, Staci and Mike Wiles, Ron and Kayla Gulino, Nathan Gulino, Terry Gulino, Angela and Rick Faircloth, Tony and Heather Gulino, Amanda Gulino, Olivia Gulino, and Jacob and Rebecca Gulino; her great-grandchildren Lauren, Cade, Claire, Luke, Allye, Morgan, and Dylan Pizzalato; Brady, Bryce and Abby Wiles; Ciro, Griffin, Jaxon, Rosalie, Addie Josephine and Honora Gulino; Giovanna and Bradford Faircloth; her step grandchildren, Natalie, Rachel and Mia; Logan, Cade and Tyler; Ayden, Jordyn and Saydie; sister-in-law, Elizabeth and Anthony Bruno; and several cousins and extended family.

Josie was preceded in death by her beloved Ciro whom she longed for since his passing in 1999; her parents Joseph and Josephine Sciambra Cicero, one sister Ann Cicero and great-grandchild John Paul Emmanuel Gulino who were born into the arms of the Lord, grandparents Salvatore and Josephine Rosso Cicero, Antonino and Ann Conti Sciambra; granddaughter-in-law, Stephanie Kelly Gulino; and numerous family and friends.

Mama Josie (the family matriarch) lived an active, robust life, and was always ready for an adventure. She enjoyed many travels, and loved being with her family. We will miss so very much our visits with her, hearing her family stories, sitting out in her gazebo sharing time together, making "Nonna rolls" or having a delicious meal with her which she so enjoyed.

Her family offers our gratitude to Fr. Miles Walsh and Fr. Mike Moroney who prepared her soul for the Lord with the anointing of the sick and apostolic pardon as well as all of the physicians, nurses, and caregivers who have helped her live life to the fullest as long as she was able, and also to her dear neighbor friend Mr. Joe Cazes who was always available to care for her little needs around the house as well as provide the cherished daily visits with mail in tow.

Visitation will be held at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church on Thursday, September 30, 2021 from 9:30 to 11:00 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted by Fr. Mike Moroney at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church at 11:00 am, followed by burial at Resthaven. Pallbearers will be her seven grandsons.

We give gratitude to Our Lord, and for the intercession of our Blessed Mother, St. Padre Pio, and to St. Joseph for the graces our mom received for a peaceful death into Paradise.
