Judith “Judy” Batchelder Kalassay, (Mom, Grandma, Gammy, Grandma Judy, and Gigi) passed away peacefully on August 24, 2026 in Baton Rouge LA. She was at home with family and her much loved Big Band music playing as she took her final breath. Judy was born February 11, 1939 to Marjorie and Endicott Batchelder. She was a native of Pittsburgh, PA before relocating to New Orleans in 1971 with her three children. She spent her professional life as a banker beginning with ICB and moving through many mergers to Chase Bank.

Judy left New Orleans post Katrina following her children from state to state during her retirement years to enjoy them, her grandchildren and great grandson.

She is preceded in death by her parents and infant son.

She is survived by her sister, Jane B. Strong, three children Susan Miclette (Michael); Scott Kalassay (Lucinda); and Jennifer Crisp, as well as her six grandchildren, Megan Bennett (Mitchell); Lauren Giffin; Caroline Stone (Mike); Katherine Crisp; Michael Kalassay; Sophia Kalassay; great-grandson, Mason Giffin; niece Laura Briggs (Steven); and grand niece Leslie Briggs.

She will be greatly missed but always remembered by the family and numerous friends of many years.

The family would like to thank the Oncology Team at Ochsner Baton Rouge (Dr. Brooks, Dr. Williams and their co-workers) along with “Judy’s team” at St. Joseph Hospice of Baton Rouge for the care and support of Judy during her final journey.

Resthaven Funeral Home of Baton Rouge will handle final arrangements with internment in Wilkinsburg, PA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Breast Cancer research, St. Joseph Hospice of Baton Rouge, or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
