Kathleen Gibson Matthew

Kathleen Gibson Matthew passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the age of 87. She was born on September 10, 1938, in Tayport, Fife, Scotland to Andrew Gibson and Helen McGill Gibson. After graduating from Seymour Lodge of Nursing in Dundee, Scotland she began her career as a Registered Nurse that spanned more than six years.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers James Gibson (Winnie) and Andrew Gibson; and her nephew, Andy Gibson.

Kathleen is survived by her loving husband of over 64 years, James B. Matthew; their son Brian J. Matthew (Elise); their daughters Jill Matthew and Joyce Matthew Kernot (Michael); her beloved grandchildren Blake J. Matthew (Rendy), Alexandra M. Stewart (Tanner), Jack Tragni; and her great-granddaughter, Wrenleigh B. Matthew. She is also survived by her sister, Ann Scott; her sister-in-law Jean Gibson; and numerous other loving family and friends.

James and Kathleen lived in Scotland, England and Nova Scotia before settling in Louisiana. In our retirement, we took many ocean cruises, the best being to Antarctica. Kathleen enjoyed golfing, knitting, crocheting and gardening. All these adventures and hobbies paled in comparison to time spent with her family. To Kathleen, James, their children, grandchildren and great- granddaughter were her world. Whether it was time spent cooking a large meal, baking a delicious dessert, or just talking for hours at holidays, they were her peace and happiness.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at St. James Place and Hospice of Baton Rouge, for their exceptional care and support during this difficult time.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 24,2025 at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge. A memorial visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 9:00 a.m.
