Kenneth M. "Kenny" Broussard passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at the age of 78. He was born on May 23, 1947, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Stanley Broussard and Mayme Barcelona Broussard. A 1966 graduate of Glen Oaks High School, Kenny was drafted to the United States Navy, where he proudly served our country for three years. He was chosen to attend submarine school and often talked about his time spent on the USS Dogfish (SS-350). After receiving his honorable discharge, Kenny embarked on a new adventure working for the railroad. He retired as a conductor with Canadian National/Illinois Central Gulf Railroad in July 2006, a career that spanned more than 38 years and provided him with countless opportunities to see the country and friendships that endured.
A chance meeting at a country bar led him to his future wife, Beverly Russo Broussard. Then one evening in 1988, Kenny made a bet with Bev, if she could sell her home, he’d marry her. Never one to lose, just two weeks later Beverly’s home was sold, and she was ready to collect her winnings. Kenny’s response was ‘let me sleep on it!’. The decision was one of the easiest he ever made, he woke up the following morning, and they made plans for their mountaintop wedding in Colorado. He married the love of his life and received the amazing gift of her family – he truly cherished his relationship with each of them. None more so than his beloved Carly, who he and Beverly were blessed to be able to raise as their daughter after Beverly’s sister passed away in 2004.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law Vincent J. Russo; his sister-in-law Angela McConnell; and the puppy that unknowingly stole his heart, Mugsy.
Kenny is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Beverly Russo Broussard; their daughter Carly McConnell; and his sisters Gayle Oubre and Vicki Bryant. He is also survived by his wife’s family including his mother-in-law, Lorena Russo; his sisters-in-law Chris Blackwood and her husband Bill, Linda Kimmel and her husband Fred and Susan Russo; his brothers-in-law Vincent Russo, Jr. and his wife Tommie and Mike Russo and his wife Donna; as well as numerous other loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Kenny loved the outdoors, fishing and camping. He and Beverly enjoyed road trips in their RV and never turned down a chance to visit Colorado. A car and truck fanatic from a young age, he would attend car meets in the 1970’s in his custom painted van with a train emblazoned on it, and watching NASCAR was a favorite pastime. Kenny found his true happiness when he was with his family. He never missed an opportunity to gather for Sunday dinners and hamburger nights at Moms. These moments have given us memories to last a lifetime. We will hold them close and cherish them forever.
