Kirby Duty

October 21, 1938 — June 22, 2021

Kirby E. Duty, a resident of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2021 at the age of 82. He was born in McRoberts, KY October 21, 1938. He was a graduate of Jenkins High School in Jenkins, KY and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp where he was ranked as a Corporal. He worked at Exxon for 30 years before retiring in 1999.  He was a member of Zoar Baptist Church for 50 years, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher.

He was an avid outdoorsman and loved spending time at the family property in the woods of Montpelier, LA. Additionally, he was a devoted family man, always there for love and support. To know Kirby was to love him and he forever touched the hearts of those who did. He was a Godly, genuine, and selfless man who volunteered his time and resources to anyone who needed it.   As a regular volunteer at Judson Retreat Center in St. Francisville, he was dedicated to the upkeep of the Christian facility which hosted camps for youth, family, and church retreats throughout the year.

Survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Barbara Jackson Duty; sons Gary D. Duty (wife Debra) and Kirby Andrew Duty (wife Rosalyn); grandchildren Alec Warren, Peyton Luneau and Mason Warren; brother Frank Duty (wife Peggy); sister Bernice Duty; and nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Maxie Duty, and 11 brothers and sisters. Visitation will be Monday, June 28, 2021, from 9:00 am until Funeral Service at 11:00 am at Zoar Baptist Church (11848 Hooper Road, Baton Rouge).  Interment will follow in Zoar Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Alec Warren, Mason Warren, Frank Duty, Mike Duty, James Chadwick and Ronnie Brown. Honorary pallbearer: Peyton Luneau. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project (https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate) or The Salvation Army USA (https://www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn/) in Kirby's name.

Special thanks to caregivers Rose and Brenda, and the staffs of Ochsner Hospital and St. Joseph Hospice Carpenter House.
