Krishna Agnihotri, beloved matriarch, passed away on February 8 at the age of 89.
Krishna was the eldest daughter of Pt. Har Bhagwan and Lajwanti Devi Moudgil. Her father was a charismatic lawyer and her mother was an excellent cook who could whip up a meal for 50 on a moment's notice.
Krishna and Bhishma (B.K.) were married for 66 years, having met at a debating competition. She was a devoted partner standing by his side through an extraordinary life that included his service as an ambassador and as a Chancellor of Southern University Law Center. As a professor of economics, she loved teaching students and community members the skills to lead a well-organized and impactful life.
Krishna was a proud mother of three children, Shailly, Gia, and Arvind (wife Leena); grandmother to Monisha (husband Wayne), Nicholas, Tejas, Miraya, and Brahm; and great-grandma to Torin and Krish (named in her honor).
Krishna and B.K. moved to Baton Rouge in 1968. She was integral to developing a vibrant Indian community that flourishes in Baton Rouge. Krishna cultivated lifelong friendships filled with prayers, laughter, card games, and, in earlier decades, spirited dance parties. She was often asked to make her legendary Halva!
She was devoted to the families of sisters Sudershan, Pinki, and Daisy, and brothers Sushil, Kulwant, Balwant, Virinder, Tony, and Sunil; and the families of Bhishma’s sisters Vijay and Suman, and brothers Kapil and Vinod.
She leaves behind a powerful legacy of strong, accomplished women. Blessed throughout her life by the respect and honor of many, she will be remembered as a woman who shaped lives, nurtured relationships, and built a family rooted in love and tradition.
