Larry Michael Aucoin

April 14, 1947 — April 22, 2026

On Wednesday April 22, 2026 Larry Michael Aucoin of Baton Rouge, Louisiana peacefully ran into the arms of his loving Lord and savior Jesus Christ, entering the gates of heaven, experiencing the perfect peace he patiently awaited!

He was born April 13, 1947 in White Castle, LA to Ray & Wilma Aucoin. He is survived by his two devoted children Jessica Mushtare and her husband Dallas, and Taylor Aucoin and his wife Louise; his adoring grandchildren, Audrianna, Rose, and Zion Mushtare, and Cora Kelly Aucoin; his cherished siblings, Charlene Brumfield (John), Kenny Aucoin (Laurie); his loving nieces and nephews, and his best friend, Beverly Bennett.

He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Ray and Wilma Aucoin; his older brother Ray Jr. Aucoin; and his precious grandson Zane Mushtare.

Larry’s strong faith was established in him by his parents, especially his mother. He accepted Jesus into his heart around the age of 8 years old, and from that moment forward, God was always first in his life. He had a strong overcoming spirit and faced many trials throughout his life, but his faith in the Lord always gave him the strength to continue moving forward. His prayer life and deep trust in God carried him through many obstacles, and he remained steadfast in his walk with Christ.

Larry was a proud and loyal native of Baton Rouge. He attended Istrouma High School, where he excelled as a student and athlete, especially in baseball and basketball. He led his high school teams to many victories, including as basketball AAA District and City Champs in 1963-1964. His talents earned him a scholarship to play basketball at Loyola University in New Orleans. He would later move to Southeastern University in Hammond, LA, where he continued to play sports while pursuing a degree in accounting.

After graduating, Larry worked as an auditor, primarily for the City of Baton Rouge. He was a hard worker, from toiling at a chicken farm in the summers to pay his college tuition, to twenty-five years of loyal service for the City. He travelled frequently for his job, seeing many corners of this great country. He was passionate about his auditing work and charged with a sense of its greater purpose: to ensure public servants like firemen, police and teachers received their hard-earned pay, and to create financial security for his family and God. He was a generous giver, both of time and money, who always put God first in his finances and believed deeply in investing back into the church and God’s Kingdom. Giving was a reflection of his faith, and he found great joy in blessing others and supporting the work of the Lord.

Larry was a longtime member of Istrouma Baptist Church, joining the congregation with his family in the 1960s. He went on to serve in the children’s ministry for many years, something he was deeply passionate about. He was also a longtime member of the singles ministry, where he loved hosting many community gatherings, especially for LSU games, at his home. Larry always put the Lord first in everything he did, leading his family with faith, love, and prayer.

Larry maintained his love of sports throughout his life. He kept his baseball and basketball skills sharp, and could often be found on the golf course. He cultivated much success on the fairway and green, playing in many tournaments to a high level. He was a keen sportsman as well, fishing in the great waters of Louisiana with his beloved boat, Thunderbolt. He was a lifelong LSU fan. From listening to the 1958 football national championship game on the radio as a child, to watching all the recent football, baseball and basketball success, Larry loved his Tigers. He attended many games and was a famed host of gameday parties, featuring his legendary touchdown pralines. He loved sharing these passions with his children: bringing them to games, cooking together, taking his son fishing, teaching his daughter to golf, and playing mini-golf with his grandchildren.

Larry adored his family, and was a devoted father and Paw Paw. As his children pursued sports, interests and careers of their own, he was their biggest fan and cheerleader, supporting them through many a track meet, volleyball game, halftime show and runway walk. He shone with pride as his daughter achieved success in the Health & Wellness industry, and his son as a historian. But nothing made him light up like spending time with his beloved grandchildren. His laugh was infectious. He was as generous with it as he was with so much in life. He instilled a strong foundation of faith in his children, and that legacy will continue to move forward through the lives of his children and grandchildren.

In these last few years of his life, while overcoming many challenges with his health, Larry waited patiently on the Lord to take him home. More than anything, he longed to be in heaven with Jesus, but he trusted the Lord’s perfect timing and faithfully waited for the day he would run into his Father’s arms.

The Lord answered many of Larry’s prayers over the last year of his life. He was able to move back to Baton Rouge, which was one of his greatest desires, and continue living independently on his own, something that was very important to him. He enjoyed his days eating good food, watching sports, spending time with the Lord, and accomplishing personal goals he had set for himself. He was blessed to create many special memories and meaningful moments with his family during this season.

In God's perfect timing he was carried home on the wings of angels, running straight into his Father’s arms, to hear the words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” There he got his full healing he so longed for! Yet, there was one last dream Larry had on his list that he wanted to accomplish in life, which was to get back on the golf course. And the Lord is so redemptive. Even after passing, the Lord allowed that dream to come to life. Larry’s love for sports and his dream of being back on the golf course will continue to live on through the donation of his tendons and ligaments, which will be used in sports recovery to help others heal, regain strength, and return to the activities they love. Even in his passing, Larry chose to give life, healing, and hope to others, and his legacy will continue to live on through the lives he impacts.
