Larry Gene Johnson

Larry Gene Johnson passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the age of 79, after a brief illness. Larry was a Baton Rouge native who loved his life. He was an athlete with an extensive football history. After graduating from Istrouma High School, he played football for Northeast Louisiana State College. Larry graduated with a BS in Accounting and later received his MBA. He had a distinguished career as a certified public accountant for over 50 years. Larry was an avid LSU fan, who loved fishing, coin collecting and family. He had a generous spirit and extended a hand to anyone in need.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Valerie Chicola Johnson, and their three daughters, Tamara Johnson Taylor and her husband Scott, Dr. Leigh Ann Johnson, and Ellen Johnson MacKenzie and her husband Colin. Larry is also survived by his three grandchildren Chase, Josslyn and Lyra; two brothers, Norwyn Johnson and his wife Lynda and Don Johnson; as well as numerous other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Irene Johnson.

Larry’s immediate service will remain private.
