Lawrence “Larry” Nalls was born in Alexandria, Virginia, on January 19, 1952. A resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana for over 45 years, he passed away peacefully at home on September 6th, 2026.
Larry grew up with his father, Joseph Nalls, an accountant for the Pentagon, in a small rowhouse in Alexandria, Virginia. Larry played in the high school marching band, rowed crew and was an exceptional student. He earned the opportunity to attend University of Virginia, where he majored in Chemical Engineering. He graduated with distinction in 1975 and shortly thereafter married his first wife, Nancy Carter Blake. They would divorce in 1984, and Larry moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. There he accepted a job at Ethyl Corporation (later Albermarle Corporation) and obtained a master’s degree in chemical engineering at Louisiana State University.
He married the love of his life, Mary Ann (Tate) Nalls on June 21, 1986 in Baton Rouge. They had one child together, Matthew Ryan Nalls. They would eventually settle in Central, Louisiana, where they were residences for over 30 years. Larry worked for Albermarle Corporation for 29 years, where he made lifelong friends and became a valued subject matter expert in multiple disciplines, including R&D process design. Larry’s main focus, though, was his family. He was a doting husband to Mary Ann and an incredible father. He was a baseball coach, scoutmaster, and above all, a provider for those who needed him. He became a caregiver to his wife later in life and devoted himself to looking after her. He was a caring grandfather to his two grandchildren whom he loved dearly. His family is forever grateful for the love and dedication he showed his entire life. The family would also like to thank the incredible Charlesena Weeden Kenney and Melinda Murry for caring for him in his later years.
He is survived by his son, Matthew, of Mandeville, LA; and grandchildren, John Ryan Nalls and Sophie Lucille Nalls.
Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph L. Nalls and Mary Jane Stover; his brother, Dennis Roger Nalls; and his wife, Mary Ann Nalls.
Pallbearers will include Matthew Nalls, Paul Leroue, Vicki Leroue, Billy Tate, and David Owens.
Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., on Wednesday, September 16th, 2026, from 9:30am until service at 11:00am. Interment to follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
