Leslie Snipes

Les Snipes, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away at his home on Thursday Aug. 11, surrounded by his family.

While Les spent the last 19 months of his life with Acute Myeloid Leukemia- he never lost his zest for life or his sense of humor. He was born on July 22, 1952 in San Diego, Cali., the son of Larry Snipes and JoEllen Hendershot Snipes. Les was raised in Duncan, Oklahoma, where he met the love of his life, Marianne Frazee. They were married for 46 yrs. and were blessed with one child, a son, Zack Snipes. Les was a 1970 graduate of Duncan Senior High School & went to college at Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma where he graduated with a degree in Nursing. Marianne and he started married life in Natchez, MS. where Les was a Coronary Care R.N. It was there that he first became involved in the film industry. Relocating to Los Angeles, CA., he worked as a medic for Warner Brothers & various other studios, both on set and out on location. He worked in the Safety & First Aid department at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, CA.. After 12 years in L.A., Les & Marianne moved to Louisiana to be closer to family. Les went to work in the Emergency Dept. at North Oaks Hospital for 7 yrs., retiring in 1998 to come to work in His wife’s company, Frazee Recruiting Consultant, Inc. Learning a whole new skill set, Les became the CFO and was instrumental in the success of the business. Les never met a stranger. He was kind, generous, and sentimental. Les worked with the Cub Scouts at Episcopal School and the Y.O.U. Youth group at Unity Church of Baton Rouge. He was a big blues fan and a proud member of the Krewe of Bacchus where he rode in their Mardi Gras weekend parade every year.

Les leaves behind his wife Marianne, son Zack, sisters Lisa Pelley & JoLynn Snipes, beloved niece Zoey Pelley Rogers & husband Troy. Niece Katie Cox Koger. Nephews Jon Odell, Jason Odell & wife Christi, and Mike Cox. Great Nieces Samantha & Elizabeth Odell, Blair Odell, Kaitlynn & Hailey Koger. Great Nephews Trein Cox & Brady Odell. Brother-in-law Gary Odell & wife Sandra; sister-in-law Carol Frazee Dowdy & husband Keith. Beloved cousins Michelle, Shaun, Molly & Dax LeRoi.

Les was preceded in death by his sister Gina Snipes Morley and sister-in-law Susan Frazee Odell. Les was a big animal lover and leaves behind his dog Maurice and cat DeeDee.

A special thank you goes out to Dr. Shows and his team at Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center, as well as to Dr. Ashley Staton and the oncology team at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans.

Visitation will take place at St. Andrews Methodist Church, Baton Rouge, on Saturday, Aug. 27th from 11 a.m. until services at noon. There will be a gathering at the Friendship Hall, next to the church, immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Les’s honor to the Hospice of Baton Rouge’s Pet Peace of Mind Program (PPOM) or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Family and friends may sign the online guest book or leave a personal note to the family at www.resthavenbatonrouge.com.
