Levy Redden

July 30, 1938 — October 8, 2021

Levy Donald Redden, formerly of Monroe, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on Friday, October 8, 2021. He was a 1956 graduate of Farmerville High School and received his master’s plus 30 in Special Education from Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe in 1962. Dad loved all sports and played football, basketball, and baseball. He was a coach at many schools during the decades he dedicated to education. While he worked briefly for New York Life Insurance Company as well as a pharmaceutical representative for Roche and Wallace Laboratories, his true, deep passion was coaching and especially having the opportunity to coach his children. Dad enjoyed reading Louis L’Amour books, spending time with his family and friends and being an active member of North Monroe Baptist Church. Preceding Dad in death are his parents, L. Evans and Evon Redden, brother John Wayne Redden, his sister Thelma Jean Redden, and his son, Levy Donald “Don” Redden II. He is survived by his wife Velda Watson, and by his ex-wife, Glenda B. Redden and three children, Bruce B. Redden, Roxanna R. Cofrancesco and husband Simon, Bart E. Redden and wife Kari and seven grandchildren: Blake and Dylan Redden, and Simona ,Don, Angelina, Bennett and Simon Cofrancesco. Dad is survived by Velda’s children Julie Freeman and husband David, and Tara Allgood and husband Patrick, and two step grandchildren, Zoey and Matt, by his brother Stanley Redden and his wife Teri,his niece Ef’Anne Strumpell and husband Mark as well as their two sons, Mason and Luke and other nieces and nephews Janna R. Antley and Ashley Redden,and Tara and Heath Redden. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 17, 2021, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home located at 11817 Jefferson Highway Baton Rouge, LA. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Warren Eckhardt, Associate Pastor, of North Monroe Baptist Church, Monroe, LA officiating. Burial Services will be at 3:00 p.m. in Resthaven Cemetery. If desired, friends may make contributions in Dad’s memory to the Don Redden Memorial Scholarship Fund at LSU c/o Carol Thomas, Assistant Director, 150 Allen Hall Baton Rouge, LA 70803.
