Lloyd Don Norwood passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at the age of 86. He was born July 1, 1938, to Wilbur “Pete” C. Norwood, Sr. and Louise E. Norwood of Monteagle, Tennessee. He was a construction engineer for the United States Army during his twenty years of service. While stationed in Germany he built bridges, foundations for hospitals, and he even had time to build soccer fields for the community. He was also in charge of the generators of a missile site close to the Rhine River. In Korea, he built mountain roads and bunkers. In the US, he was stationed in Colorado and Texas. He would later retire as a signalman for the Southern Pacific Railroad. He spent the last 15 years of his life in Baton Rouge doing the most enjoyable job, helping to raise his youngest granddaughter, Andrea.
Don enjoyed golfing, fishing, and was skilled in carpentry and woodworking. He will be remembered fondly for his kindness, his readiness to help others, and the many stories and memories he’s shared with all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his sons, André Michael Norwood and David Pàl Norwood; brother, Wilbur “Mac” Cullen Norwood, Jr.; in-laws, Shirley Norwood, Andreas Gangl, and Eva and Horst Dürner; and nephew, Donald Wade Norwood.
Don is survived by his wife of 63 years, Teréz Gangl Norwood; daughter, Kyung Sook Norwood; grandchildren, Andrea Norwood, Liana Pinson Bartkowiak, and Marisa Pinson. Also left to cherish his memory are his in-laws, Elena Cucurull, Joe Godeaux, Petra and Franz Zeidler, Rudi and Monika Galaba, and Erika Gangl; as well as many nieces and nephews, and other family members and friends in the United States, Germany and Spain.
