Lynn David Lyons

Lynn David Lyons passed away on Monday, August 24, 2026, at the age of 85. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Lawrence David Lyons and Dorothy Mae Stricker. Lynn went on to serve in the United States Army for 26 years primarily in Air Defense. After his military career, Lynn obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Secondary Education which inspired him to become a high school teacher.

Lynn was actively involved in his community and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Sons of the American Revolution, Scottish Rite, and the Roman Catholic Church.

Lynn was a loyal husband and devoted companion to his wife Gisela for 48 years, and a constant, loving fatherly presence in the lives of his three children. He will be remembered as a caring and compassionate man who quietly used what he had to help others, including many strangers he encountered throughout his life.

He was an avid outdoorsman, spending countless hours fishing and camping with friends and family. Lynn was fascinated with computers and spent his time watching movies and listening to his favorite music.

Lynn is preceded in death by his wife, Gisela Katarina Lyons; his parents; his sisters, Jacqueline Messer and Dawn Shambry; and his brother, Terry Lyons.

He is survived by his daughters, Lynette Snyder (Robin) and Michelle Whelan (Paul); his son, Lance David Lyons; his sister, Kimberly Lock (John); his brother, Michael Lyons (Betty); his grandchildren, Katherine Meredith (Mark), Michael Whelan (Brittany), Katherine Lyons Staring (Alan), David Whelan (Kelsey), Andrew Whelan, Landon Lyons (Monica), Benjamin Whelan, Theresa Whelan, Mikhaela Snyder, and Elizabeth Whelan; and 14 loving great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Lynn’s memorial mass at All Saints Roman Catholic Church, 62 Needmore St in Walton, Kentucky at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026. Burial will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North, 205 Eibeck Ln in Williamstown, Kentucky.
