Mable E. Doughty McCandless “Mrs. Mack”, 100 years old and 2 months, a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away on June 7, 2022, at The Carpenter House in Baton Rouge, LA.
Mable E. McCandless was born on April 7, 1922, in Baton Rouge, LA to Tom Ed Doughty and Alma Evans Doughty. She was a long-time member of Broadmoor Baptist Church. She also spent many years as a volunteer with an Election Commission for East Baton Rouge Parish.
She is survived by her two children; son, Robert “Bob” A. McCandless (Becky) and daughter, Shirley A. McCandless of Columbia, SC; four grandchildren, Spencer M. McCandless of Washington D.C., Laura Disedare, Brian McCandless, and Dr. Greg McCandless (Dr. Julia McCandless) of Waco, TX; three great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. She is also survived by special friends Roland Glover, David Brown, and Daryl Lively who were so kind and helpful.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard “RW” McCandless; parents, Tom Ed Doughty and Alma Evans Doughty; son, Richard “Dickie” McCandless (Judy); granddaughter, Dane Erin McCandless; brothers, Jessie T. Doughty of Mobile, AL and Bruce E. Doughty; and sisters, Gladys Littlejohn, Louise Ewing, Dorothy Riley, and Thelma Norwood.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Carpenter House for their help and generosity.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 10, 2022, from 9am until funeral service at 10am at Resthaven Funeral Home. Interment will immediately follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
