Margaret Dawson

Margaret Burns Dawson, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the age of 89. She was born on a farm near Valley Falls, Kansas on January 9, to Bertha Wenzl and James Burns. She was educated at schools in Valley Falls, Kansas, and Mount St. Scholastica in Atchison, Kansas, prior to her marriage and move to Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Margaret is survived by five children; Mary Lynn Dawson Ziober (Ron) of Bryan, TX, Quentin Joseph Dawson, Jr. (Nancy) of Baton Rouge, LA, Barbara Jane Smith (Mike) of Roswell, GA, Patricia Ann Dawson White (Trey) of Cypress, TX, and James Burns Dawson (Paula) of Baton Rouge, LA.

She is also survived by sixteen grandchildren; Auburne, Carley, Mindy, Amy, Alaine, Audrey, Adrienne, Luke, Aaron, Mark, Meghan, Travis, Jack, Emma, Payton and Kensley; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings Mary Burns Triggs, Thomas Burns (Peggy), Rita Burns and Philip Burns (Shirley); and sisters-in-law Agnes Burns, Mary Jane Burns, Marilyn Burns and Deena Burns.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Quentin Joseph Dawson, Sr.; her parents; and siblings Ruth Burns Langen, Ray Burns, Pat Burns, Paul Burns, Terry Burns and Alice Burns Birnbaum Edmunds.

The family would like to express our gratitude to Mom’s best friend, Bitsy VanNorman, for her love and support.

A visitation will be held at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church on Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 10:00am until 11:00am. A rosary service will be held prior to mass at 10:45am, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. A graveside service will follow at 1:30pm, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, in St. Francisville, LA.
