Margaret Begnaud Toups

Margaret Begnaud Toups, 80, rejoined the Lord in heaven on Sunday, September 17, 2023, with her son at her bedside to comfort her as she passed. She was born on January 19, 1943, and grew up in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Margaret was preceded in death by her former husband Paul Leslie Toups, Sr.; her mother and father, Harry and Beulah Begnaud; and three sisters, Gayle Comeaux, Nancy Lyons and Beverly Begnaud. 

She is survived by her one and only son, Paul Leslie Toups, II, and wife, Kimberly Duffy Toups; two grandchildren, Paul Leslie Toups, III "Trey" and McKenna Grace Toups, who were the loves of her life; two sisters, Virgina Piper (Ned), Patricia Abshire (Rickey); two brothers, John Begnaud and Alex Begnaud (Tammy), and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Those who knew Margaret knew her family was her world. Her son could do no wrong until those grandbabies were born. She lived her life to the fullest, and she was always the life of the party. She looked forward to playing Pokeno and bridge with her friends, where she somehow always won a prize to decorate her house. Margaret enjoyed the easy life at Shenandoah Country Club, playing tennis and making lifelong friends while also being the swim, tennis, and golf mom for Paul Leslie. She loved to cook amazing meals for family and friends and play host to all the kids in the neighborhood when they were hungry and thirsty, as if they were her own children. Her first job after being a stay-at-home mom was at Baton Rouge Bank, where she spent her entire workday socializing with everyone who came in. She went on to work for a friend's insurance company for several years before moving to New York Life; a job she truly enjoyed util her retirement. She spent many years volunteering at the Baton Rouge Crisis Center, where she helped the families of individuals who were victims of suicide. She took great pride in the work she did there. Her greatest joys in life were spending time with family and friends, going out dancing at a local bar and, most of all, watching her grandkids participate in all their activities. 

The Funeral Service for Margaret Begnaud Toups will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with Deacon Don Musso of Most Blessed Sacrament officiating. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 1:00PM.
