Marion "Missy" Hopkins

January 6, 1962 — September 19, 2023

Marion "Missy" Vaughn Hopkins, 61, passed away peacefully surrounded by her faith and family at home in Baton Rouge on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, after a 4-year battle with cancer.  Missy was born in Columbus, Georgia, to Marion and Frank Vaughn and lived there for 14 years until her family moved to Lafayette, Louisiana. She attended Lafayette High School before earning her Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Early Childhood Education from Louisiana State University.  While attending LSU, Missy married the love of her life, Henry Guy Hopkins III of Baton Rouge, with whom she recently celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary. After graduating from LSU, Missy taught in Iberville and East Baton Rouge Parish schools. She retired from the classroom as she and Guy began their family.  Missy's love for children continued as a parishioner of St. Aloysius Church. Missy devoted her time to Vacation Bible School and was a Come Lord Jesus leader. Her students in Come Lord Jesus described her as a "loving person," "thoughtful," "easy to talk to," "cool," and "always there." Sharing those same sentiments were all those she tutored over the years.  Missy’s life was full of flowers and friends. She was always filling a vase, arranging a wreath, or hosting a celebration. Her floral talents, generosity, and helping hands will be missed by those dear to her. Missy’s greatest love was her family. And all her children and grandchildren were proud to call her mom, “Nana”, or “Missy”!  Missy was preceded in death by her father, Frank Dixon Vaughn, and her son Matthew Vaughn Hopkins. Missy is survived by her husband, Henry Guy Hopkins III; her three children, Hank (Meri) Hopkins of Dallas, TX, Ashley (Cason) Ramos of Houston, TX, and William Hopkins of Baton Rouge; two grandchildren, Henry Hopkins and Margot Hopkins of Dallas, TX; her mother Marion Hollingsworth Vaughn; her two siblings Dixon Vaughn and DeAnne (Mills) Murrey and many nephews and nieces.  Visitation will be at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2025 Stuart Ave, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  Thursday, September 21, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m.celebrated by Rev. Gregory J. Daigle. Entombment service will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge. Pallbearers will be Hank Hopkins, William Hopkins, Cason Ramos, Beau Garon, Ty Garon, Jonathan Dyer, Mitch Hopkins, and Ben Murray. And honorary pallbearers Jacob Murray, Fletcher Vaughn, Brandon Dyer, Cain Hopkins, Bart Hopkins, and Christian Garon.  In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy, please consider making a memorial donation to Miracle League at Cypress Mounds, a local children’s organization close to Missy and her late son Matthew’s heart.  “His Master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your Master’s happiness!’” Matthew 25:23
