Martha Hodges Weller

September 17, 1938 — May 27, 2026

Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Martha Hodges Weller passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. She was born September 17, 1938, in Newton, Mississippi to Wiley Prentiss Hodges, Jr. and Jimmie Vermelle Ware Hodges. When Martha was 4, her family moved to Greenville, Mississippi, a town she quickly came to know as Home. Martha graduated from Greenville High School, attended Mary Washington College in Virginia, then transferred to Mississippi State College for Women, where she received a bachelor’s degree in psychology. In junior high school, Martha became friends with Neal Weller of Chatham, Mississippi, who over the years became the love of her life. Neal affectionately called her “Marty," a nickname that she held dear for all her life, especially when it became her "grandmother name" in 1991. To this union came their four beloved children. At the young age of 42, Martha became a widow when Neal passed away unexpectedly. Although they were only married for 21 years and 3 months, she spoke often of their love and remained true to him to the end, never remarrying.

Martha is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband; their infant twin sons Edward and James; and her brother Jim. Martha is survived by her loving children Beth Weller Cronin and husband Matt, Neal Weller and wife Mary, Katherine Weller Harmon and husband Rick, and Bruce Weller and wife Paige; her adoring grandchildren Grace Cronin Ely and husband Zach, Emily Cronin Sandifer and husband Ryan, Parker Weller and fiancée Linsey, Ted Weller and fiancée Kallan, Ben Weller, Suzette Weller, Suzanne Weller Thompson and husband Ken, Elizabeth Weller Hubbard and husband Mike, Caroline Weller, Olivia Harmon, and Neal Harmon; and her precious great-grandchildren Wren Ely, Mae Kirkland Thompson, and James Sandifer. Martha was blessed to enjoy a very special relationship with each one of them. There was never a moment when she wasn’t proud of who they were and what they had accomplished. The foundation of love, support, traditions and values that Martha and Neal created will carry on for generations to come.

Martha cherished spending time with her family and making memories together, and was also a devoted and spirited friend. She rocked the tennis court and the bridge table with Neal and many friends during their years together, and they loved traveling, both with friends and as a family. Some of her children's favorite childhood memories are of their camping, mountain, and beach trips. From early childhood, Martha had remarkable talent and devotion at both the piano and the easel, lighting up our homes and lives with beautiful music and gorgeous paintings into her later years.

Martha was blessed with the friendships of so many wonderful people and was grateful for the love of her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as it knew no boundaries.

At her request, the family will celebrate Martha's life at a private service to be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
