Mary Ann Guercio Burton, a resident of Baton Rouge, born June 23, 1937, passed away at home on November 17, 2025.
Mary Ann is survived by her sons, Anthony Burton and his wife Brenda, Richard Burton and his wife Renee, Wayne Burton and his wife Suzanna, and Brent Burton; grandchildren, Tony Burton and his wife Rebecca, Melissa Bourgeois and her husband Christian, Michael Burton and his wife Lethe, Nina Burton, and Amy Burton; great-grandchildren, Holli Burton, Anna Serrett and her husband Jake, Chad Burton, Matthew Burton, Joseph Burton, Noah Bourgeois and Luke Bourgeois, and her great-great-grandchildren, Caleigh Serrett and Natalie Serrett.
She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph E. “Buddy” Burton; parents, Joseph and Melena Callegan Guercio; sister and brother-in-law, Lena Mae Guercio and Anthony “Tony” Lombardo; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Lee Moreau; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Daisy Guercio; brothers, Sam and Russell Guercio; nephew, Craig Guercio; father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Mary Pourciau Burton, Sr; sisters-in-law, Mary Louise Burton, S.S.N.D. and Shirley Burton Hubert; and brother-in-law, E. G. Hubert.
Mary Ann was a proud Catholic wife and mother. Although her husband “Buddy” passed away over 20 years ago, she remained true to her wedding vows until the very end. Her life was a testament to her faith. Over the last several months, she accepted her cross and carried it with grace and dignity that was truly inspirational. She loved her family deeply, and she left them a tremendous legacy of faith, love, and service. Her last few days were filled with the faith, love, and family that were the driving force of her life. She passed away surrounded by family in the most peaceful and beautiful of ways.
The funeral mass will be at 1:00 PM on November 20, 2025, at St. Gerard Majella Catholic Church, with visitation before mass starting at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
Pallbearers will include Tony Burton, Micheal Burton, Christian Bourgeois, Chad Burton, Joseph Burton, and Noah Bourgeois. Honorary Pallbearers: Matthew Burton, Luke Bourgeois, Geno Guercio, and Randy Moreau.
Mary Ann was a member at numerous organizations such as St. Gerard Altar Rosary Society, St. Gerard Majella Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, and St. Isidore Bowling League.
Mary Ann was a graduate of the Redemptorist High School class of 1955. She retired as a bookkeeper from Redemptorist High School.
