Mary R. Chauff

Donaldsonville

With great sadness, the Chauff family announces the passing of Mary R. Chauff, 91, a native of Baton Rouge and longtime resident of Donaldsonville, La.

 

Mrs. Chauff was a lifelong educator of 49 years, beginning her career as an assistant home agent with the L.S.U. Agricultural Center before progressing to Donaldsonville Upper Elementary, then Donaldsonville High School, where she taught home economics for many years. From there, she moved into administration, first as assistant principal at Lowery Middle School, then as principal at Donaldsonville Elementary School, where she retired from. She ended her career in education after being named Louisiana Elementary Principal of the Year for 2000-01.

 

Professional organizations Mrs. Chauff was a member of included: Charter member of the Beta Zeta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Education Sorority, Ascension Retired Teachers Association, and Louisiana Retired Teachers Association. She also served as secretary of Ascension Credit Union for 17 years.

 

Mrs. Chauff was active in the First United Methodist Church of Donaldsonville, having served as board chairperson and Pastor-Parish Relations chairperson.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Charles C. "Blitz" Chauff, parents Jacob Bee and Sarah McMurray Rawlins, sister Beatrice Adams and brothers J.B. and Francis "Brother" Rawlins.

 

She is survived by her brother Jim Rawlins; children Lynne Greaud, Michael Chauff, Charles Chauff; grandchildren Brandy McDade, Michael Chauff Jr., Codie Landry, Robert Greaud, Jason Greaud, Ryan Greaud; and great grandchildren Jordie Acosta, Kaz McDade Jr., Kami McDade, Landon McDade, Kinley McDade, Autumn Chauff, Alexis Madere, Haley Madere, Anna Greaud, Adam Greaud, Grace Greaud, Jude Greaud and Griffin Greaud.

 

Visitation will take place on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at Resthaven Funeral Home beginning at 9 a.m. until the service begins at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.

 

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Old Jefferson Community Care Center and Clarity Hospice for all the love and care they showed to Mary. In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to the Old Jefferson Community Care Center or Clarity Hospice.
