Mary Font

May 28, 1932 — January 23, 2023

Mary Louise Reeves Font (Moweez) passed away peacefully on January 23, 2023 with a full 90 years of wisdom and unique life experiences.

Born in Morehead, Mississippi in 1932 to Zelma Griffin and Marvin Reeves, she grew up in the Delta with her three brothers and two sisters.  Shy, but curious, Mary Louise loved to play, sing, and dance.  In 1949, while working at the soda shop on 3rd Street in Baton Rouge, Mary Louise met a handsome and charming police officer named Leslie who courted his way into her heart.  Together they had 4 children who also loved to play, sing and dance and they became a close-knit family enjoying life to the fullest.

Mary Louise was known far and wide for making the best deserts around.  From cakes to pies, candies to cookies, she mastered the art of baking. Always a fashion statement, she loved the latest styles and accessories, choosing colors that would complement her beautiful auburn red hair.

Mary Louise had a caretaker’s heart and nursed Leslie for over 11 years when he became ill with Parkinson’s disease. Several years after his passing in 1991, mom had the good fortune of finding love again with  “Papa” McMorris.  They embraced good country living and had a life of fulfillment until his passing in 2015.

Mary Louise lived out the rest of her life loved and cherished by her children.  She walked in the spirit and continued to bring joy to everyone she met. With a pure heart and deep faith there is no doubt she soared straight to the heavens!

She is preceded in death by her spouse, Leslie Carruth Font, Jr., her partner, Romy “Papa” McMorris, her son-in-law, Roger “Tony” Popovac and her brothers Nathan and Marvin Reeves. She is survived by three daughters, Mary Font Popovac, Cynthia Font Schneider (Steven) and Lori Font Campesi (Pat); one son, Jackie Ray Font (Peggy), sisters Ruth Sykes and Ann McMorris, brother Dennis Reeves, granddaughters Lindsey Font, Victoria Batson and Arianna Magistrale and grandsons Adam Black, Nathan Black, Kevin Font, and Patrick Campesi, along with three great grandsons, five great granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at Resthaven Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 31 from 12:30-2:30 pm.  Services to immediately follow. Pallbearers are Adam and Nathan Black, Kevin Font, Patrick Campesi, Kyle Batson and Steve Schneider.  Donations and offerings may be made in her name to the charity or church of your choice.
