Mary S. Moore passed away peacefully to be with Jesus and her husband, Dan, on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Mary was born on December 26, 1948, in Laurel, Mississippi.
Mary was known for her commitment to family, friends and her willingness to help anyone. Mary worked at Wilson’s Jewelers and was a homemaker. Mom opened her home to any family or friend that needed a place to stay. Her proudest moments were being the best wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and all-around good friend to many. Mary enjoyed cooking, eating out with family, and spending time together. Mom will be remembered for her strength, kindness and generosity.
Mary is survived by her loving children Michelle Moore, Veronica Walker (Jason), Dr. Charles “Chuck” Moore (Jodie); grandchildren Kevin Moore (Ally), Clancy Walker, Victoria Walker, Caroline Moore, Cameron Moore; great grandchild Gianna; siblings Jerri Shackelford Watson, Jean Shackelford, Charles Shackelford (Sandy), brother-in-law Richard Oliveaux and many nieces and nephews along with numerous other relatives and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Captain Danny Jo Moore, her parents Charles Bennett and Edith (Anderson) Shackelford, sister Joan Shackelford Oliveaux, brother-in-law Captain Meyer Joseph “Mike” Watson.
Services to honor and celebrate Mary’s life will be held at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, September 18, 2026, from 9:45 am to 10:45 am; Eulogy at 10:45 until the Mass of Christian burial with Father Todd Lloyd at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Pall bearers will be Dr. Charles “Chuck” Moore, Jason Walker, Kevin Moore, Sidney Babin, Todd Welborn, Paul Mansur and Albert Alvarez.
The legacy that Mary created with her husband Dan (or as he would say, my friend) will continue through their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
We as a family appreciate your thoughts, prayers and kind words. We would like to thank Dr. Spell, Dr. Scott Wharton and all the medical staff at Woman’s Hospital and Our Lady of the Lake Hospital for the care they provided.
