Maureen Richard Herbert, born in New Orleans on March 29, 1952, to Amedee S. Richard and Audrey Davis Richard, entered God’s heavenly kingdom on July 5, 2026, following a long and brave battle with cancer.
Maureen was a graduate of Sacred Heart of Jesus High School in New Orleans and attended UNO. She taught at Jefferson Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, as a Kindergarten Physical Education Teacher for 8 years and she served her community for many years as a school crossing guard providing safe travels for students. Maureen was an integral part of Reliance Valve and Machine, the family-owned business, operating in Baton Rouge since 1988.
Maureen was always a fun-loving person, who found good in everyone and cherished her relationships with her family and friends. Being generous was one of her strong points and she believed when you give, you receive tenfold. She had always been strong physically, emotionally and spiritually in the face of multiple obstacles in her life. Maureen was a devout Christian who attended Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
She enjoyed idyllic weekends in Grand Isle with family and friends, fishing and relaxing with a good book. Viewing the latest movie at the movie theater was her delight. Her talent for woodworking was a focal point for the neighborhood during the holiday seasons with decorative lawn displays and she left a legacy with the handmade Christmas ornaments for her loved ones. Her generous heart was a beacon of friendship to all who met her.
Maureen cherished her family and is survived by her husband, Stafford Herbert, sons John Herbert (Regan), Patrick Herbert (Crystal), and daughter, Lauren Herbert, her grandchildren Elizabeth Herbert, Step-grandchildren Brooklyn Falcon, Tanner Falcon, Hunter Falcon, Kaylie Davis, Alexis Limbers, and Payton Limbers, her siblings, Amedee S. Richard, III, Mary Ellen Weaker (Frank), Patrick Richard (Audra), Eileen Person (Dwight), Daniel Richard (Melinda), Timothy Richard (Terri), Brothers-in-law, Arthur Herbert, III, (Irene), Robert Herbert, (Carrie), and Aunt Martha Walker, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Maureen was preceded in death by her parents, Amedee S. Richard and Audrey Davis Richard; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arthur Herbert, Jr. and Gloria Herbert; and her uncle, John Walker.
We would like to express our gratitude to the staff of Clarity Hospice for their professional and compassionate care of Maureen, as they provided comfort in a warm and tender manner.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Herbert, Patrick Herbert, Danny Richard, Pat Richard, Timmy Richard, Arthur “Bud” Herbert, III.
Visitation will be from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM prior to a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 PM on Friday, July 10th at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 15615 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA 70817.
