Melvin Anthony Tassin, a complex and multifaceted individual, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at the age of 82.
Born on August 25, 1942, Mel lived a life marked by diverse experiences and pursuits. Mel grew up at Whitney Plantation and was part of the last generation to be raised there. A veteran of the United States Army, Mel served his country with distinction, and his time in the military had a lasting impact on his life. Through the army, he moved from Louisiana to Chicago where he met his first wife. He later transitioned to a career in the brokerage industry, where he rose to the level of President of a brokerage company.
Mel's family was a significant part of his life, and he is survived by his seven children, Laura, Yvonne, Tami, Danny, Eric, Mark, and Joy.
Throughout his life, Mel was extremely intelligent, charming, a good host, and the life of the party. The family will gather to celebrate Mel's life at Whitney Plantation in late January.
Mel's life was a testament to the complexities and contradictions of the human experience. While his journey was not without its challenges, he remains an important part of the lives of those who knew him, and his memory will be cherished and remembered in the days ahead.
