Michael Paul Gomez, 54, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born on May 29, 1968 in Bogalusa, Louisiana. He is a graduate of Bogalusa High School and earned a degree in computer science from LSU. He served 20 years in the 205th Engineering Battalion of the Louisiana Army National Guard. He served a tour in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom and retired from the Army in 2006. He was currently a senior software engineer with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana and was a member of St Thomas More Catholic Church.

Michael is survived by his wife of 16 years, Kimberly Chance Gomez, and their five children, Sydney (14), Brayden (12), Landon (11), Carson (8), and Jackson (6). He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Gomez Territo and brother-in-law, Thomas Territo of Baton Rouge, sister-in-law, Theresa Gomez of Bogalusa, sister-in-law, Ginger Gomez of Lake Charles, twin brother, Stephen Gomez and wife, Kendra Gomez of Baton Rouge. He is also survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Don and Jan Chance of Baton Rouge, sister-in-law, and brother-in-law Ashley (Chance) Altman and Joel Altman of Cincinnati, Ohio, and nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sherburne “Jack” Gomez, and Juanita “Nita” Gomez, and two brothers, Sherburne “SJ” Gomez of Lake Charles, and Edward Gomez of Bogalusa.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Resthaven Funeral Home (11817 Jefferson Hwy) from 5-8pm with a rosary led by Ernie Langley at 7pm. Visitation will also be Friday, March 3, 2023, from 9-11am at St Thomas More Catholic Church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Burial service will be held at noon at Resthaven Gardens of Memory with a reception to follow. Pallbearers will be Josh Goff, Jack Toney, Hayden Toney, Daron Nolan, Rodney Wagner, and Joel Altman. The family wishes to thank the Hematology Oncology Clinic of Baton Rouge, the oncology floor nurses of Baton Rouge General on Bluebonnet, and Hospice of Baton Rouge.
