Michael David Pearson, age 72, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on April 21, 2026. Michael was born on July 30, 1953, in Maracaibo, Venezuela. He spent his early years in Texas before moving to New Orleans, LA, around the age of 12.
He graduated from Holy Cross School in 1971 and later earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics from Louisiana State University. This led to a multifaceted career with the Louisiana Department of Revenue, from which he retired as a Senior Policy Consultant.
Michael was a fairly private person who cared deeply for family. He supported his wife and children in all of their academic, athletic, musical, and personal endeavors. It was while attending some of these events that he rediscovered a love for photography. What started as taking photos for his children’s events, became a hobby that brought him enjoyment throughout his retirement. This dovetailed perfectly with his love of going on cruises with his wife, Gaynell.
He wasn’t one for fuss and wouldn’t want anyone to make too much of his passing. He’d prefer to be remembered simply and without a lot of commotion.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Gaynell Pearson; his sons, William Pearson, Richard Pearson (Bobbye), and Jonathan Pearson; and his granddaughter, Molly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Marge Pearson.
A service to celebrate Michael’s life will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Family and friends may sign the online guestbook or leave a personal note to the family at www.resthavenbatonrouge.com. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Michael’s name to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
