Mildred Jesse George

Mildred Jesse George, 94, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2026. She was born on January 5, 1932, in Kingsville, Texas, to Emil Adolf Jesse and Irene Broderhausen Jesse, and was raised on a farm in South Texas alongside her four sisters and one brother. From an early age, she valued family deeply, a devotion that remained central throughout her life.

Together with her husband, Charlie, she spent many joyful years traveling across the country to visit loved ones near and far. A devoted and loving mother, she also generously gave her time as a Den Mother for her sons and as a Blue Bird and Camp Fire leader for her daughter. Known for her tireless spirit, she often walked miles—sometimes as many as ten at a time—to support her sons and their friends in earning merit badges.

Amid her many responsibilities, Mildred discovered and nurtured a deep love and natural talent for art. As an elementary and art teacher in the Bogalusa School System and later at Shenandoah Elementary in Baton Rouge, she shared that passion generously with her students. Each year, she devoted countless hours to creating individual portraits of her students for their parents to treasure for a lifetime. She also found great joy in painting the world around her, especially the beauty of nature. Hydrangeas, irises, and magnolias often filled her canvases, along with the birds she delighted in watching from her window—cardinals, blue jays, mockingbirds, and hummingbirds.

Mildred was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Charles Harrison George. Although they enjoyed traveling together, they were also content at home, working in their yard and spending time with friends from church and social-service organizations such as Beta Sigma Phi and the United Methodist Women.

She is survived by her sons, Charles “Bud” George, Jr. (Amii) of Hendersonville, NC; Samuel L. George (Debbie) of Farmersville, TX; and her daughter, Deborah George Fitzgerald (Mike) of Hoover, AL; as well as her grandsons, Michael Patrick Fitzgerald, II (Megan) and Ashton Charles Fitzgerald. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and great-grand-nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Monday, August 24, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA 70816. A funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m.

Graveside services will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Louisiana National Cemetery, 303 W. Mt. Pleasant Zachary Road, Zachary, LA 70791.
