Myra, known to her family as MeMe, was born August 15, 1948, in Abbeville, Louisiana, and spent her early childhood in Erath before becoming a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge. She entered peacefully into the arms of Jesus on September 28, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Although cancer took her earthly body, her dedication to the Lord overflowed each day creating a legacy that lives on through those she loved most- her family, her church, the community, and beyond. A lifelong good and faithful servant, she spent each day striving towards the joy and betterment of those around her. At every game, recital, or performance she could be seen cheering on her family and at every holiday she welcomed multitudes into her home.
Preceded in death by her father, Fernand L. Guidry Jr. and sister Tracy Anne Guidry. She is survived by the love of her life and husband of 56 years, Don A. Elbourne, Sr., four children, Rev. Don (Courtney) A. Elbourne, Jr. of Mandeville, Dr. Keith (Wendy) B. Elbourne of Ethel, Kristin (Ron) Reynolds of Baton Rouge, and David (Aimee) P. Elbourne of Baton Rouge, and nine grandchildren, Zachery Elbourne and Emily (Zachary) Ball; Julia and Jonathan Elbourne; Micaiah, Josiah, and Kayleigh Reynolds; Elizabeth and Anna Claire Elbourne; and one great-grandchild, Theo Ball, as well as her mother, Dolores Guidry, and siblings, Fernand Guidry III, Kim (Don) Moore, Chris Guidry, David (Crystal) Guidry, Suzanne (Dale) Miller, John Guidry (Michelle Lapeyrouse), and numerous nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
Myra’s family extended far beyond those related by blood, with her opening her household to those whose lives brought them under her love and protection including Troy (Shanon) West and their children Casey, Aaron, and Andrew, Mandy (Albert) Schof, William “Seth” Hooge, Katherine Bauer, and countless others throughout her life.
Pallbearers will be Fernand Guidry III, Chris Guidry, David Guidry, John Guidry, Don Elbourne Jr., Keith Elbourne, and David Elbourne, with honorary pallbearers her grandsons and great-grandson, Zachery Elbourne, Jonathan Elbourne, Micaiah Reynolds, Josiah Reynolds, and Theo Ball, and her Godsons, Donny Moore Jr. and Tyler Little.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 3rd at 1:00 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 2:30 p.m. at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. A Celebration of Life will follow at Drusilla Seafood.
A special thank you to the nurses and staff at Audubon Hospice of Baton Rouge for the love and care.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Mercy House, a benevolence ministry of Lakeshore Baptist Church where her son Rev. Don Elbourne Jr. pastors. Her mission was to tell people about Jesus.
