Onne LeRoy Heeren, Jr.

January 15, 1943 — June 27, 2024

Onne LeRoy Heeren, Jr., 81, died on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Onne was born January 15, 1943, in Boynton Beach, Florida to Onne and Effie Heeren. Onne graduated from Seacrest High School in Amite, Louisiana. When he graduated, he enlisted into the United States Army with the Engineering Equipment Maintenance Squadron. He finished his tour of duty in 1964 in Presidio, California.

After completing his military obligation, Onne returned to Louisiana where his drive, determination and entrepreneurial spirit opened numerous opportunities for him. With a young family to provide for and his yearning to be a business owner, he found interest in designing and developing security box modules. After years of perfecting the security box, he began selling them to residents and businesses, from this Custom Security Systems was founded.

Founding and owning Custom Security Systems was by far Onne’s greatest life’s achievement and the highlight of his personal and professional career. He maintained his status as founder and owner for over 45 years. Onne was dedicated to his employees, community, first responders, police and sheriffs. Custom Security Systems will always be synonymous with Onne L. Heeren.

Onne was not only an extraordinary husband, father, grandfather, and businessman; he was an adventurist. He was an avid fisherman, boatsman, and motorcyclist. He flew power parachutes and helicopters (he got his helicopter pilot’s license at the age of 70); he was an avid gun collector and enthusiast, knife maker, and he played violin and guitar.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Onne and Effie Heeren; and his sister.

Onne is survived by his wife, Peggy; his sister, Grace; three daughters, Jeanine Anderson and Brittany Relle of Baton Rouge; Britt Landry of Mandeville; and six grandchildren.

Onne’s wife, Peggy, gives her sincere thanks to all who stood by her and Onne in his last years and months. She especially thanks all of his Care Givers from Griswold; the doctors, nurses, and medical support staff from Woman’s Hospital Oncology, the NeuroMedical Center, Homedica House Calls, Amedisys Home Health, the Pearl at Jamestown Memory Care, St. Joseph’s Hospice and St. Joseph’s Hospice at the Carpenter House.
