Peggy Cotten Johnson of McKinney, Texas, and formerly of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Meadville, Mississippi, passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2025, surrounded by love and peace. A radiant spirit with an unmistakable Southern Louisiana charm, Peggy brightened every room with her warmth, humor and quick wit.
Peggy was gifted in so many ways, playing the piano beautifully by ear and filling her home with heartfelt music. She had an incredible eye for décor, transforming spaces into expressions of beauty and comforts. With a true green thumb, she could bring life and color out of any plant she touched, creating gardens as vibrant as her personality.
As a recent resident at Adriatica Senior Apartments, Peggy found joy in community – playing games with friends, sharing stories and spreading laughter. She also treasured her beach trips with family, where the sun, surf and generations gathered together, bringing her some of her happiest moments.
Her family and friends knew her as “GiGi,” a name that carried with it warmth, strength and endless affection. Peggy is now reunited in heaven with the love of her life, her husband Jesse, a reunion surely filled with joy, music and the comfort of everlasting love.
She is survived by her children, son Dennis Johnson (wife Stacy), daughter Tracy Johnson Burnett (husband Tom), and son Russell Johnson; her brother Larry Cotten (wife Brenda); her sister-in-law Carol Cotten; her grandchildren Garrett Johnson (wife Annie), Kelsey Johnson Broome, Cole Burnett and Jesse Burnett; and Avery Johnson, Audrey Johnson and Alyse Johnson; her great-grandchildren Aaralyn Johnson and Luca Broome; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Alton Johnson; her father, Russell E. Cotten; her mother, Myrtle Cotten Jones; her stepfather W.E. Jones; and her brothers Arnell Cotten and Gerald Cotten.
She will be remembered for her faith, grace, talents, humor, and the special way she made everyone feel loved at home.
