Peggy S. Populis

Peggy Stringer Populis passed away peacefully at home on August 28, 2026. She was born on July 3rd and was a long-time resident of Walker, LA.

Meme, as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, was an accomplished artist. Her home was a testament to her talent. She enjoyed volunteering at her church's food pantry and found great joy in serving others in her community.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Donald L. Smith and Denver Populis; her parents, Otis and Lillie Stringer; son Donald Greg Smith and 7 siblings.

She is survived by her sons, Gary Smith (June) and Jeff Smith (Arely); step-sons, Lance Populis and Lester Jenkins (Michelle); her sister, Betty Sue Rothermel; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly and enjoyed immensely.

Services will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Hwy. in Baton Rouge, on Saturday September 5, 2026. Visiting hours will begin at 9 a.m. until Memorial service officiated by Jason R. McNaughten at 11 a.m., with burial to follow at Resthaven.
