Phil Yeates, age 80, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024. Phil was a member of Kappa Alpha Society, the Founder and past President of the Apartment Association of Louisiana, and supported BREADA, the Wounded Warrior Project, and Tunnels to Towers. He graduated from Laurel High School, attended Millsaps College, and graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi.
He was a Commercial Realtor for 47 years and was known as the “Apartment Expert” in Baton Rouge. In appreciation for his volunteer work, Phil was honored with the Phil Yeates Boardroom in the Volunteers of America Baton Rouge North Boulevard office. “Paw Paw” or “Pop,” as his grandchildren knew him, was an avid first-edition book collector and enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and fishing on the lake in his beloved backyard. He visited the Baton Rouge Farmer’s Market every Saturday morning.
Phil is survived by Mary Gail, his wife of 42 years, and his children Ami Yeates, Cassie Yeates, Whit Yeates (Layla), and Ray Yeates. He had six grandchildren: Heather (Brandon), David, Brandt, Philip, Alyra, and Alexandra, and five great-grandchildren: Yaretzi, Xander, Isabelle, Catherine, and Jordan. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Lt. Col. Bill and Geraldine Yeates, his brother, Bill Yeates, Jr., and his mother and father-in-law, Raymond and Lalita Poche.
Visitation will occur on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, 17510 Monitor Avenue in Baton Rouge from 9 a.m. until services are held at 10 a.m. The burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Tunnels to Towers and the American Cancer Society. The family wishes to thank Dr. Juneja and the BRGH Cancer Center.
