Raymond "Ray" Dugas, age 91, died peacefully, following a long illness, at home, on May 13th, 2025.
He was born on his paternal grandfather's farm outside Lafayette, Louisiana but raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was a lifelong and faithful Catholic. He attended St. Anthony elementary school, Holy Cross high school and Loyola University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 1957. While attending Loyola, Ray participated in the Army ROTC Program. Upon graduation he was named a Distinguished Military Graduate. He proudly served two years as a missile launch officer in an Anti-Aircraft Artillery unit.
He worked for 39 years in the chemical industry at Geigy Chemical company, Uniroyal, Ethyl and Armant. He spent that time starting up Chemical manufacturing units in Alabama, Louisiana, Japan and The Bahamas.
Ray is survived by his wife of 65 years, Janet Craig Dugas; daughters, Deborah Dugas Tapley (husband Glenn, deceased) and Catherine Dugas DeRobertis, and her husband Gerard (Jerry); son, John and his wife Larissa Godish Dugas; eight grandchildren, Robyn Tapley, Leah Tapley Lomo and her husband Truls, Jackie DeRobertis-Braun and her husband Paul, Matt and Joel DeRobertis, Christine, Michael and Alex Dugas; and two great-granddaughters Miriam Joy and Joanna Evelyn Braun.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David Roman Dugas and Mary Solozano Dugas; an older brother, David Dugas; a younger brother and his wife, Paul James (Jimmy) and Janice Aucoin Dugas; and a sister-in-law, Matilda (Ann) Dugas.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Ollie Steele Burden Memorial Chapel, 4250 Essen Lane in Baton Rouge on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. A Visitation will be held at the chapel beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at St. George Catholic Church Mausoleum.
