Rene “Pops” J. Meliet Jr. passed away on Sunday January 23rd 2022, at his home in Central, LA. He was born on June 10th, 1929 in New Orleans, LA to the late Rene Jean Meliet Sr. and Bertha Vicknair Meliet before the family moved to Baton Rouge, LA where he grew up with his four brothers and two sisters, and graduated from Istrouma High School in 1946.
After graduation he served in the National Guard where he received an honorable discharge, and began his career as a tradesman in a cabinet shop. He later mastered other trades and became very proficient with home building at Juban Lumber company where he worked until he retired at 62 years old. He was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for duck hunting and fishing in South Louisiana, he also enjoyed bowling with his late wife Selvina and they were members of the Plank Road Bowling League in Baton Rouge. Rene was a devout husband, dedicated father and grandfather with a big heart and kind soul that that will be greatly missed by his family and friends that he enjoyed spending time with.
Rene is survived by sons Mike Meliet, Randy Meliet (Gwen), Nathan Meliet (Carla), Kenny Meliet (Donna), and Darron Meliet (Jennifer), grandchildren Eric, Jodi, Nicole, Johnny, Blake, Jason, Jared, Kurt, Aime, Laura, Brent, Joseph ,Jacob and 16 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Selvina Desormeaux Meliet, brothers Maurice “Pete” Meliet, Jerald "Jerry" Meliet Sr., Malcolm “Butsie” Meliet, Wallace “Doodie” Meliet, sisters Lille Mae Meliet Barnes and Francis Meliet Hutches.
Visiting hours will take place in Baton Rouge, LA at Resthaven Garden Funeral Home on Saturday, January 29th from 9 A.M. until 11 A.M. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory
