Richard Gregg, Jr.

October 10, 1950 — February 2, 2022

Richard Thurmond Gregg, Jr., 71, returned to his heavenly home on February 2, 2022.

“Rick,” as he was lovingly known by family and friends, was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  An alumnus of Northeast Louisiana University, Rick attended the university on a music scholarship and majored in Business Management.  He was a proud member of the NLU Marching Band and a volunteer with the Police Reserve.  After college, he went on to enjoy a lifelong career in sales, where he was able to fulfill his passion for meeting new people and exploring new places.

He was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather.  His family meant more to him than anything in the world.  He enjoyed traveling with his wife and recently returned from a trip to Branson, Missouri.  You frequently could find him volunteering as a coach for his children’s sports teams and leading their youth organizations.  He never missed a performance or ceremony and could even be found dancing on stage during his daughters’ dance recitals.  A lover of the outdoors, a favorite pastime was hunting and fishing, which he especially enjoyed with his son.  In his later years, Rick devoted himself to his grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Judy Caples Gregg; daughters and sons-in-law, Kristy Ann and Morgan LaFitte Gremillion and Sherry Glynn and Derek Michael Hernandez; a son, Richard Thurmond Gregg III, two grandchildren, John Morgan and Mary Margaret Gremillion; and sisters, Cheryl Gregg Schirmer and Sara Gregg Fontenot.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Richard Thurmond Gregg, Sr.

Pallbearers will be Donald Glynn, Rich Gregg, Morgan Gremillion, Derek Hernandez, Lane Owen, and Carter Stone.  Honorary pallbearer will be John Morgan Gremillion.

The family will receive visitors at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 8, with service following at 11:00 a.m.  Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.  Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
