Richard “Dick” Curry Thevenot, 92, a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, went home to be with his Savior on Monday, March, 23, 2026.
He was born October 5, 1933, in Houston, Texas, son of Gern “Pete” Thevenot and Mavis Bruce Thevenot.
Dick lived a life of steadfast service, and he profoundly impacted the lives of those around him. Coming from humble means, he served in the Army and Merchant Marines to pay for him and his brother to attend Louisiana State University. Later, he served as the longest tenured Executive Director of the American Institute of Architects of Louisiana (1967-2003) where he left a legacy of hard won legislative reforms that tremendously benefited architects throughout the state. During this time, he and his wife, Pat, also hosted many international students from LSU (1976-2003) in their home. Aside from his professional work, Dick was an avid gardener, affectionately known as “Mr. Tomato Man” and routinely organized plant sales to support various missions organizations overseas.
Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Pat Thevenot; his children Trent and Mary Pat, and Greg and Joni Thevenot; his grandchildren John Paul and Bristen Thevenot, Jacob and Erica Thevenot, Ann Marie and Jake Salemi; Mickey and Ashleigh Thevenot, Jaclyn and Tyler Deville, Jonathan Nellis, and Joseph and Allison Thevenot; along with five great-grandchildren; his siblings Wayne and Laura Thevenot, Beryl Ann Barnett, Marvin and Judy Thevenot, Bruce and Anne Thevenot, Steve and Jeannine Thevenot, and Sharon Roth and Mark Byouk; and many extended family members and friends – all who will deeply miss him.
Dick was preceded in death by his father Gern Peter Thevenot, his mother Mavis Bruce Thevenot, his brother Ronald Gern Thevenot, his brother-in-law Eugene Barnett, and his eldest son “Rick” Thevenot.
“Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands.” (Psalm 63:3-4).
Above all his accomplishments, Dick was a servant of Jesus Christ. He loved the Lord deeply and worshipped him passionately. His service to others was an extension of that worship and the seeds that were planted, will bring much fruit. He will be remembered for his tender spirit, quick-witted humor, and creativity that touched all who had the pleasure of meeting him.
Though our hearts grieve his loss, we do not grieve without hope. As Scripture reminds us, “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8), and we take comfort in knowing he is at peace and made whole, worshipping in the presence of his Lord.
