Obituary

Robert “Bob” Garland Higdon, a beloved husband, father, grandfather; great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at the age of 98. Bob was a native of Greenville, MS and a resident of Baton Rouge, LA. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, where he lived out his Catholic faith. He worked at Turner Industries as a planning department head. He enjoyed golf, fishing, and spending time with his family.

Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy. Baton Rouge, LA 70816, on Monday, June 29, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will continue in the Activity Center at St. Agnes Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until The Requiem Mass in St. Agnes Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. George Catholic Church Cemetery.

He is survived by his daughters: Mary Anne Higdon Bourgeois, Susan W. Higdon Brocato, Therese C. Higdon Gibilterra and Margaret M. Higdon Miller; sons: James C. Higdon, John A. Higdon, George P. Higdon and Paul A. Higdon; 41 grandchildren; 82 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maybelle Derouen Higdon; parents, Albert and Wilhelmina “Willie” Nelson Higdon; sons, Robert Gerard Higdon and Joseph Michael Higdon; grandsons, Robert Bourgeois and Joseph Higdon; granddaughter, Evelyn Higdon, great-grandson, Sean Dawson; and brother, William “Billy” Higdon.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Lady of Sorrows Church Building Fund.
