"I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12.
The beautiful light of our family, Roberta Blanche Brock Gillespie, finished her race on earth and received her eternal reward of her crown of righteousness from the Lord Jesus Christ on November 6, 2023. Affectionately known as “Mi-Mi”, she was a remarkable woman of faith who treasured the Lord’s calling on her life to be a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
A native of New Orleans, Roberta was born on March 4, 1931 and raised by parents Jewel and Juanita Brock. She married the love of her life, Earl Gillespie, moving to Baton Rouge in 1953. They enjoyed 42 years together, raised two daughters, Wanda (Mike) Hughes and Brenda who was tragically killed by a drunk driver at the age of 25 in Baton Rouge.
In her younger years, she enjoyed making Mardi Gras and wedding ballgowns and later sewing, crocheting, flower arranging, and growing orchids. She was a member of the Baton Rouge Organ Club, Parkview Baptist Church and loved going to Young at Heart at Jefferson Baptist Church. She treasured time with her grandchildren, Cary Brock (Laura) and Michael Brandon (Leslie) Hughes and most recently her great grandchildren (her babies) Mirra Grace and Brock Nolan.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 8 from 5-8 and Thursday from 10-11 followed by a celebration of life service at 11:00 at Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home.
“And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it, and its gates will never be shut by day-and there will be no night there. They will bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations.” Revelation 21:23-26.
Til we see our light again as we celebrate that glorious Light, our Mi-Mi’s light and legacy will continue in all who loved her.
