Rodney Plauche

January 6, 1949 — July 5, 2025

Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Rodney Plauche passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2025, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was 76 years old. He was born on January 6, 1949, in Cottonport, Louisiana to Reeves Plauche and Mamie Dee Guillory Plauche. His father was a longtime Scoutmaster, this was a driving factor in Rodney’s time in Boy Scouts, where he earned numerous medals and recognitions. While attending St. Joseph, he met the love of his life, Cynthia Dufour. Their love was evident to all that knew them, and they married in 1969. He was a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, receiving his master’s degree from Louisiana State University. He retired from SGS Petroleum Service Corporation as their Director of Health, Safety and Environmental.

Retirement didn’t last long for him, as he took an opportunity with BREC, that allowed him to spend time outside, meet people and partake in one of his favorite hobbies – golf. Rodney was a devout member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 969. He enjoyed diving and earned diving certifications with his son. Rodney and his wife enjoyed countless trips to the casino and a vacation of a lifetime together in Hawaii. He would always find ways to keep himself busy, among them time in his wood workshop, where he could fix anything, build cabinets and even made his son a humidor!

He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter Diane Elizabeth Plauche; and his grandson Dalton Plauche.

Rodney is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Cynthia D. “Cindy” Plauche and their loving son Todd Plauche and wife Liz. He is also survived by his adoring grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Pops”, including Avery Plauche, Laken Carpenter and husband Nick, Kaitlin Guidry and husband Brian, and Lauren Newman and husband Leslie; as well as numerous other loving family and friends.

The family would like to acknowledge the staff at Heritage Manor and Life Source Hospice for the committed and compassionate care.

Rodney will forever be known for his sense of humor, his intellect, and being everyone’s go-to guy. For his family he will always be the best husband, father, grandfather and father-in-law that we could have ever asked for! We love you and will forever cherish the memories made.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation that will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge commencing at 9:00 a.m. Funeral Service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. followed by interment at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
