Roger Daniel Oliver

Apr 5, 1943 — Oct 2, 2026

Roger Daniel Oliver, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away in his home surrounded by his family on October 2, 2026. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Robert and Lois Oliver; brother, Johnny Mac “Big Time” Oliver; and sister, Dorothy “Duke” Oliver. He has two sisters, Phyllis Ann Car and Nina Oliver, as well as a brother, Robert Oliver, living in his beloved home state of Arkansas. He was born on April 5, 1943.

He served his country from September 1959 until 1963 in the United States Marine Corps where, as he would say, “a poor country boy got a world-class education and saw the world.”

He married Ruth Seaton in 1960, despite what his drill sergeant told him: “If the Marine Corps wanted you to have a wife, they would have issued you one.” In August of 1963, the first of two children was born, Marinea Ruth Oliver McGehee, followed in July 1964 by Roger Daniel Oliver, Jr.

In May of 1977, the family moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where Roger later opened his own fire protection company, BRASSCO, Inc. (Baton Rouge Automatic Sprinkler Company).

The family grew to include a son-in-law, Richard Dewayne McGehee, and daughter-in-law, Darla Kay Oliver, both of whom loved him dearly and helped take care of him when he became ill.

He is survived by his wife, his children and their spouses, along with his five grandchildren, Richard Trent McGehee, Olivia Ruth McGehee Guitreau, Roger Zachary McGehee, Lucas Dewayne McGehee, and Roger Daniel Oliver, III. His life was an example to his children and grandchildren of what hard work and perseverance can produce. He taught them that life is hard, but you can work harder, and you get out of it what you put into it.

His family grew with the addition of four great-grandchildren: Kaylee Olean Oliver, Abel Trent McGehee, Mavie James McGehee, and Liam Jude McGehee; and two great-great-grandchildren: Ahlani Daniele Roach and Josiah James Roach.

The family wishes to thank his caregivers and hospice care nurses who helped take care of him in his home over the last few months. A special thank you and much love to his sister Phyllis for the many miles traveled and even more hours spent loving, supporting and caring for him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Clarity Hospice and/or The Salvation Army.

His family was blessed by his generosity, love, strength, and commitment to his work ethic. He will be missed, but his spirit lives on through his family. We love you, Daddy.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Golf Suites, 8181 Siegen Lane, Baton Rouge, on Thursday, October 15, from 4-7 PM.
