Rose Marie Powell, 86, a beloved grandmother, mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
A proud native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Rose Marie graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1957 before attending Louisiana State University. On November 9, 1963, she married Jimmie Dale Powell of Gainesville, Florida.
In addition to her family and her cherished home state of Louisiana, Rose Marie had a passion for travel. This love of traveling led to a fulfilling career as a travel agent. She used to joke that her favorite trip will always be "the next one."
When she wasn't traveling the globe or cruising the high seas, Rose Marie filled her time playing tennis, researching family genealogy, cheering on LSU, and most importantly, serving her deeply adored community at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Baton Rouge.
Over the years, Rose Marie was involved with many groups and organizations, including SAH Class of'57, Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, Baton Rouge Women's Tennis Association, St. Jean Vianney Social Responsibility Commission, where she served as the co-chair for Meals for the Homeless at the Bishop Ott Shelter, Captain of the Baton Rouge Cenacle Home Retreats, Cache Pot Investment Club, Canary Islanders Heritage Society of Louisiana, Les Guidry d'Asteur Genealogy, Monday Night Bible Study at St. Patrick, St. Patrick Tabulators, and St. Patrick Adores. She also started the Golden Shamrocks at St. Patrick.
Rose Marie is survived by her spouse, Jimmie Powell; children, Kelly Palermo, Zane Powell (Sara), and Clay Powell; six grandchildren, Steven Powell (Mary-Anne), Kendyll Palermo, Makenzie Powell, Tanner Powell, Elise Powell, and Ethan Powell; three sisters, Linda Tweedel (Ronald), Jacque Crehan (Jim), and Bobbie Starr (Bill); brother, Sammy Romeo; and sister-in-law, Karen Powell.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Samuel and Rae Romeo; in-laws, James G and Billie C Powell; brothers-in-law, Ollie Powell and Bobby Joe Powell; and sister-in-law, Robin Romeo.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Rose Marie’s life on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. All will be welcomed at 10:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Rose Marie's name to Mission for Movement in Baton Rouge, LA.
