Rose Schittone Datz

June 1, 1930 — May 4, 2026

“For we live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So, we make it our goal to please Him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.” - 2 Corinthians 5:7-9.

Rose entered her heavenly home on Monday, May 4, 2026, after passing peacefully at her home in Greenwell Springs, LA. She was 95, born in Tickfaw, LA, made Baton Rouge her home in 1941 and resided in Greenwell Springs since 2001. She was a true believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and the right to life, especially the unborn. She was a loving wife, homemaker, devoted mother and grandmother whose focus in life was her family and her constant prayer was that they would have a relationship with the Lord. Her favorite pastime was watching sports, especially the LSU Tigers and the New Orleans Saints, whether they won or lost.

She is survived by her seven children, Jack J. Datz, Jr. (Sevie), Daryl J. Datz, Dianna R. Datz, Linda D. Kennedy, Paul S. Datz, Christine M. Datz and Cheryl D. Olinde; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Datz (Kristi), Jenae Jones (Chad), Nathan Datz (Crystal), Jason Kennedy, Eric Kennedy (Stephanie), Justin Datz, Kathleen Chatterton; twelve great grandchildren, Nicholas Datz, Tyler Datz, Hunter Datz (Hailey), Chase Jones, Marisa Chatterton, Josiah Chatterton, Gabriel Chatterton, Brady Datz, Logan Datz, Scarlett Kennedy, Michael Kennedy, and Benjamin Kennedy; and two great, great grandchildren, Camden Datz and Isabella Datz.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Jack J. Datz, Sr.; her parents, Stefano and Rosario "Sarah" Miceli Schittone; nine brothers, Edgar Schittone, Joseph Schittone, Edgar "Kay" Schittone, Mickey Schittone, Anthony Schittone, Frank Schittone, Steve Schittone, John Schittone and Joe Schittone; five sisters, Sarah Schittone Campo, Fannie Schittone Campo, Frances Schittone Campo, Veta Schittone Fedele and Mary Schittone Giaratano, and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jeremy Datz, Nathan Datz, Justin Datz, Jason Kennedy, Eric Kennedy, and great grandsons, Nicholas Datz and Tyler Datz.

She was blessed with good health, but struggled physically since the flood of 2016, with the help of her grandchildren, Justin Datz and Kathleen Chatterton who helped attend to her every need which enabled her to reside in the comfort of her home. The family is eternally grateful to a faithful servant of the Lord, and neighbor, Chuck Langlois, a member of St. Alphonsus, who faithfully visited her weekly for years to pray with her and administer communion. We would like to thank Vincent Tumminello, MD at the Baton Rouge Clinic, who was her physician for many years, the home health nurses and staff of Audubon Home Health, the nurses and staff of Audubon Hospice whose care and assistance allowed her to remain home until her final destination; a special thanks to her sitter, Kristen "Chea" Wilson with DJS Helping Hands who was at her side until her last breath.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with recitation of the rosary at 6:30 p.m., at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, LA. Visitation will resume on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m., at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 13940 Greenwell Springs Rd, Greenwell Springs, LA. A graveside service and entombment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
