Sallie E. Abbott

May 16, 1954 — February 8, 2024

Baton Rouge

Sallie Elizabeth Jones Abbott passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at the age of 69.  She was born May 16, 1954, in Alexandria, Louisiana to William Howard Jones and Olga Elaine Jones Woodle.  After graduating from Tioga High School, she married the love of her life, Roger S. Abbott.

Sallie is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, William Howard Jones, Jr.   She is survived by her loving husband of over 49 years, Roger Abbott; their daughters, Christina Holton and husband Henry, and Stephenie Abbott and husband Jorge Vila; as well as her beloved grandchildren Seth, Jordyn and Brantley Holton, and Isabel and Elena Vila.   She is also survived by her sister Anita Boisennin and husband Bob.

The family would like to acknowledge her sister-in-law, Patti Abbott; close friends Sulynn Ganey, Sharon Nason and Wanda Boyt and her devoted goddaughter, Bonnie Caldwell, for the love and friendship.  Also Pinnacle Health Services – especially Camille, Phyllis, Sharon, Lacey, and Barbara who did so much in assisting with Sallie’s final care, and the staff at the ALS Clinic at Our Lady of the Lake – Baton Rouge.

Sallie always lived life to its fullest but did so with the gentlest heart.  She dabbled in many part-time careers including cake decorating, floral design and after their daughters were old enough, assisting the schools as a crossing guard.  While she committed to each of these jobs when she had them, the jobs that had her full attention and her heart for most of her life were wife, mother and finally MaMaw!

She and Roger had a passion for travel, visiting 39 national parks, going to the tip of Maine and everywhere in between, even experiencing the vacation of a lifetime in Alaska, where they travelled by plane, train and automobile.   Her love for the outdoors was evident in her garden.  Once a grandmother, Sallie would spend her time playing with her grandchildren and making baby blankets.  Retirement gave her the opportunity to embrace her ‘crafty’ side, including embroidery, crocheting, and sewing.

The love she gave and shared with her family and friends will forever be the greatest gift we have from her.
